Custer County District Court Overview
Idaho uses a unified state court system. Custer County is in the Seventh Judicial District, along with Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Clark, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison, and Teton counties. Custer County District Court Cases

Custer County Case Movement
Case movement depends on the subject. A felony may start with arrest, initial appearance, and preliminary hearing in Magistrate Court, then move to District Court after bindover. A civil case under the magistrate threshold stays in Magistrate Division, while larger claims go to District Court. Probate and family matters are usually Magistrate Division work in Idaho.
This split affects record searches because the same dispute or prosecution can create entries at more than one level. A felony can have early magistrate entries and later District Court entries. An appeal from a magistrate decision can create a District Court record even when the original case began as a traffic, misdemeanor, small-claims, or family matter.

Custer County District Court Records
Search District Court case status through Idaho iCourt. Use Smart Search for case status and docket entries, Search Hearings for hearing dates, and Make Payments for eligible criminal matters. For certified copies, sealed-record questions, older files, or documents not visible online, contact Custer County Courts. A case number, party names, case type, and approximate date make clerk requests more accurate.
District Court records may include felony charging documents after bindover, arraignment entries, motions, orders, trial settings, plea records, judgments, sentencing orders, probation terms, civil complaints, answers, judgments, and notices of appeal from the Magistrate Division. Some public docket entries are enough to track status, while the signed order or judgment still requires a clerk copy request.
The local monthly District Court schedule makes timing important. If a case is not yet visible online, the filing may still be in process, the hearing may be set on the next District Court day, or the case may still be in the Magistrate Division. Confirm the court level before assuming there is no record.

District Court records are governed by Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32. Sealed cases, juvenile records, protected personal identifiers, and confidential entries may not appear in public search results.
Federal Courts Are Separate
Custer County is within the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, but federal court is not part of Idaho's state court system. Federal civil, criminal, bankruptcy, habeas, prisoner-rights, civil-rights, federal tax, diversity, and federal-question matters use federal dockets and PACER or CM/ECF. Idaho iCourt does not search federal court files.

Use federal CM/ECF only for federal District of Idaho matters, not Custer County state cases.
